Immune Deficiency Evaluation

Immune deficiency occurs as the result of a poorly-functioning or absent portion of the immune system. There are two types of immune deficiency disease:

Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases (PIDD)
Primary immunodeficiency disease (PIDD) occurs when tissues and cells of the immune system are defective due to hereditary or genetic traits.

Secondary Immune Deficiency Disease
Secondary immune deficiency diseases are caused when any environmental factor compromises the immune system.

The board-certified allergists at the Center for Allergy and Asthma of Georgia perform immune deficiency evaluations to learn which type of immune deficiency disease may be an underlying cause for chronic, severe infections.

Immune Deficiency Testing at the Center for Allergy and Asthma

During an immune deficiency evaluation at the Center for Allergy and Asthma of Georgia, patients can expect a thorough examination with one of our board-certified allergists. Our specialized testing often includes:

  • Immunoglobulin tests to check FBC, IgG, IgM, and IgA levels
  • Blood tests to detect the presence and type of infection
  • ESR tests to detect possible chronic infections
  • Chest and sinus X-rays
  • Microbiological swab tests
  • Advanced laboratory investigations to determine the immune system’s response to potential antigens, immunizations, and other biological responses

Our board-certified allergists use the information collected through these tests to determine the presence of an immune deficiency disorder.
